最近ガラス焼成の難しさ、特に徐冷ついて悩まされています。
七宝焼き出身者（というほど上手でもないのですが）なので高温で焼成することに気を配るのは慣れているのですが、500度前後の温度でのガラスの取り扱いの大切さについて自分はわかっていなかったのでは。。と、厚みのある少し大きめの作品を焼いては割り、という失敗を繰り返して思い知らされました。そこで尊敬する方からアドバイスをいただいたり、ネットで情報を漁ったり。。
ブルズアイのホームページにはそういった情報が満載なのですが、残念ながらエフェトレ（モレッティ）のホームページには徐冷温度の情報のみ。モレッティが主体の自分、仕方がないので日英のガラスサイトを片っ端から調べたり、自分の電気炉の温度上昇を計測してみたり。。。そういういろんな苦労を重ねて焼いてみた厚さ9mm、長さ10cmの長いガラス棒（カトラリーレスト）がようやく形になりそうです。（でもまだ耐久性があるかどうか、実際に使用して試しています）そういえばモレッティについての徐冷プログラム作りなどを詳しく説明しているサイトをご存知の方がいらっしゃったら、ぜひ教えていただきたいです。もちろん自分の炉でどんどんと試して失敗を重ねて経験を積むのが一番大切だと思っていますが。
まだまだ下手くそですが、それでも勉強し、試し、そしてそれらの確固たる知識をベースに作品作りを続けていきたいと思っています。
Recently, I’m thinking a lot about the difficulty of glass firing, especially the annealing programs.
I first came to the glass fusing world via enameling, so I’m used to take care about firing at high temperature as 800℃, but I came to know that I didn’t really understand the importance of taking care of glass in the kiln around 500℃, after I’ve broken some works that have certain thickness. I received advice from a person that I respect very much, and rummaged through the internet…. The Bullseye HP has such rich information, but I use Effetre (Moretti), and the only information that Effetre gives in its HP is the annealing temperature. So I did a lot of netsurfing in both English and Japanese sites, measured the temperature rise of my own electric kiln… Taking those steps, I at last seemed to have succeeded in making glass cutlery with the length of 10cm and thickness of 9mm. But I’m still using it every day, to see if it is really durable.
If someone has information about Effetre glass annealing programs or know of a site, please let me know. (I welcome any language, the computer will translate it for me lol.) Of course I know that the most important thing is to try a lot of experiments in my own kiln, and gain experience.
I’m still on the way, and I want to study and try a lot more, and make works based on firm and confident knowledge.
